When all Americans are treated equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all most free. If we do not maintain justice, justice will not maintain us. If you judge people, you will have no time to love them. Our differences do matter, but our common humanity matters more. The way to change others' minds is with affection, and not anger. Don't raise your voice, improve your argument. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Do you little bit of good where you are, it's those bits of good put together that will overwhelm the world. If you want peace, you don't talk to your friends. I see what's possible when we recognize that we are one American family, all deserving of equal treatment. Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization. Action is the remedy to indifference: the most insidious danger of all. But each of us can make a positive difference if we commit ourselves to do so. None of us can save the nation or the world. You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom. Truth never damages a cause that is just. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word. I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. It is not our differences that divide us. Excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism. Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. Activism is my rent for living on the planet.

~ Rosa Parks (alternate version of this quote)Ģ3. To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future, and renders the present inaccessible. Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world. There are still many causes worth sacrificing for, so much history yet to be made. How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment to improve the world. Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation. You must never be fearful of what you are doing when it is right. The moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you have to agree with people and their beliefs to defend them from injustice. When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that. Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that. If there is not struggle, there is no progress. The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size. Be the change you wish to see in the world. A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. Never forget that justice is what love looks like in public. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both. Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.
